Science and technology interactions in Germany

Working with Richard Lambert, a member of the monetary policy committee of the Bank of England, now director general of the Confederation of British Industry, we produced a report for the UK government on science and technology interactions in Germany. This was based on conversations and interviews with about 20 German companies, ministries and research organisations. The Lambert Germany Report concluded that the two sides can learn from each other in many areas, such as tuition fees, establishing ‘elite universities’ and attracting and retaining world-class research talent. We produced recommendations for improving active cooperation between German companies and British universities, for instance through a clearing house in German university-business contracts.
